Reduce Global Warming by Smart Food Choices

Meat Meals Require Far More Resources than Plant Based Meals:

·        Over 5 lbs of grain is required to make 1 lb of meat

·        8 times as much fossil fuels

·        50-100 times as much water

“Animal protein also demands tremendous expenditures of fossil-fuel energy
- eight times as much as for a comparable amount of plant protein. “

Farmed Animals Are a Top Contributor to Environmental Problems

Animal farming accounts for 18% of greenhouse gas emissions, making it a bigger contributor than transportation.

The United Nations Food in agricultural organization reports that:

animal agriculture is the second or third biggest contributor to " the most serious environmental problems, at every scale from local to global. "

The report's authors calculate that livestock production taints 8% of all fresh water used by humanity, primarily to irrigate feed crops.

See backside for more details or check U.N. website at: http://www.fao.org/newsroom/en/news/2006/1000448/index.html

Livestock are responsible for 9% of carbon dioxide releases associated with human activities, mostly as woodlands are burned around the globe for pastors or to create fields to grow feed.

37% of all human induced methane comes from livestock.
(As their manure decomposes)
Molecule for molecule, this major greenhouse gas contributes 23 times as much a global warming as carbon dioxide does.
